For Family Guy fans, there are no freakin' sweeter words than "Never Before Seen." Created as a three-episode story arc, this Family Guy Movie, DVD premiere is a triumphant homecoming for the Griffins. Family Guy's resurrection is a television miracle, and its creators have rewarded the faithful by picking up right where they left off, offending any and all sensibilities (recasting Jesus as comic magician Art Metrano), dissing the celebrity disenfranchised (Ellen Cleghorne references, anyone?), and generally taking potshots at anyone on their enemies list (Stewie breaks the neck of a reporter for Entertainment Weekly, the magazine that once called Family Guy "the Awful Show They Just Keep Putting on the Air"). The Untold Story! - Family Guy Movie, is a star vehicle for Family Guy's breakout character, in which the mega maniacal and matricidal infant has a Grinch-like change of heart after a near-death experience (and a disturbing encounter with Steve Allen in Hell) and, more life-altering, discovers a football-pated man who could be his father (the truth is more shocking!). As go the gags, so goes the Family Guy Movie, and there are enough good ones here to compensate for the many misfires. The Miller-esque (as in Dennis) penchant for channeling arcane pop culture can grow tiresome. The movie is a three part story wrapped around and intro and wrap up that parodies a Hollywood premiere and party. The jokes fly fast and bawdy and pull no punches. Every pop culture reference no matter how obscure and some of the more controversial issues of the day are tossed in, and for the most part, work.
The story for the Family Guy Movie follows the evil genius Stewie, who after a near death experience decides to change his ways as Hell does not hold much appeal for him. After the family gets Tivo, Stewie spots a person on television that is a spitting image of him. Convinced that the man is his real father, Stewie and the family dog Brian, join the hormonally driven Quagmire on a cross country trek. "Family Guy Movie".
When Stewie reaches the coast he is shocked to discover the true identity of the man which will propel the remained of the story. While the show has a few misfires, it is mostly filled with one effective joke after another. The laughs were constant and I found myself enjoying every moment of the film. The laughs are very good, and if you are a fan of the show and do not mind some biting, and crude humor, this is a great escape.
Fans of the show will love the usual interplay of the characters and the familiar style and pacing as the film plays out like a regular episode of the show, as it was initiated as a three part episode. The inclusion of segments that would not have likely made it past the networks Standards and Practices department only ads to the enjoyment of the show as it is nice to see a shown known for pushing the envelope taking steps that it would not otherwise be able to take.

Humor Watch: 'Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story'
I've made no secret of my love for TV's "Family Guy," the hellzapoppin' cartoon series. I'd been counting the days to the release of the straight-to-video movie this week. I bought the "all-new, outrageous, uncensored" DVD and watched the full-length feature tonight.
It's wildly funny and more over the top and tasteless than usual. A bit downhill in the last third, but still some good laughs. Fans will love it. Others will probably be bewildered and appalled, as is often the case with zany productions until viewers suddenly find themselves hooked, understanding the jokes, running gags, etc.
"Family Guy Presents Stewie Griffin: The Untold Story" is a three-part arc originally intended for TV, probably season four by the looks of the episode numbers assigned in the end credits. Somewhere along the line, the producers decided to go the video route and heightened the adult material. They'll have to tone down the content to air it, even on Fox, I suspect. At 88 minutes, including lengthy wraparounds and an Intermission, the movie might divide into four episodes on television when resurfacing there.
I'll share more after listening to the audio commentary, which should be fully entertaining -- and a top priority.
